Museums in proximity: The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at AU opened on Oct. 3, 2003. The 13.2 million museum has six exhibition galleries, a cafe, a museum shop and a 125-seat auditorium in nearly 40,000 square feet. The museum's 15 acres of grounds include formal gardens, a 3-acre lake, and sidewalks for hiking and biking; The Jonathan B. Lovelace AU Athletic Museum and Hall of Honor is an all-sport, interactive, multimedia exhibit area. There are sports lockers containing information and artifacts on all of AU's sports, past and present. Several large movie screens run videos of the Auburn athletic experience including The Tiger Walk before home football games. Showcases document such Auburn stars as Vickie Orr (basketball), Rowdy Gaines (swimming), Bo Jackson (football), and Frank Thomas (baseball), and Shug Jordan and Pat Sullivan (football).
