Description of library facilities: Literary papers of writer Linda Grace Hoyer Updike, Ursinus 1923, mother of novelist John Updike; a Pennsylvania German archive; the Ursinusiana archives and a collection of student art work. The library also has access to 6020 electronic periodicals via database aggregators including Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, Lexis-Nexis Environmental and Expanded Academic ASAP index. It also holds access to Early American Imprints Series I: Evans, 1639-1800. The Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College includes a collection of over 3,000 works by artists ranging from Henry Moore to Louise Nevelson to Francoise Gilot.
Museums in proximity: The Kaleidoscope, the college's new performing arts center, opened in April of 2005 with a 350-seat proscenium arch theater, an experimental black box theater, an outdoor stage, a set design studio, lighting and sound center; the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art, with a sizable collection of paintings, drawings, etchings, sculpture and other works of art; the Floy Lewis Bakes Field House and Fitness Center; the Pfahler Hall of Science with state-of-the-art lab equipment, including Bruker 300 MHz NMR, Perkin Elmer Spectrum 1000 FTIR, LKB Isothermal Calorimeter, Hewlett Packard 1800A GCD GC-MS, Hewlett Packard 5890 Series II GC equipped with a 5971A MS, BAS 100W Voltammetric Analyzer, Varian Cary 1 UV-Visible Spectrometer, Perkin Elmer Lambda 2S UV-Visible Spectrometers, Hewlett Packard 8450A UV-Visible Spectrometers, Perkin Elmer 603 Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Hewlett Packard 1090 HPLC, Perkin Elmer Series 4 Chromatographic System, a photographic darkroom, and the state-of-the art Marsteller Observatory on the building's roof; Thomas Hall, life sciences building, with advanced laboratory equipment, including a scanning electron microscope, flow cytometer, spectrometers, light microscopes and tissue culture facility; Bomberger Hall, where the three-manual, 62-rank Heefner Memorial Organ is the dominant feature; and a major collection of outdoor sculptures which dots the 170-acre campus.
