From knowledgeable research assistance to Internet access from the home or workplace, National University provides access to the knowledge and technology that helps students succeed.National University students have access to an impressive array of library resources through both electronic and traditional channels. From print and electronic books to research assistance, the National University Library is an invaluable resource that helps students achieve their educational goals.The Central Library, located in San Diego, houses a number of resources for students and alumni, including an Information Competency Center with 40 web-wired work stations, a state-of-the-art classroom providing access to K-12 teaching and resource materials, a Career and Assessment Center, and a Writing Center.The Library is also the administrative center for the Universitys Virtual Library, which houses one of the largest e-book collections in the United States. The Virtual Library provides remote web-based access to library services, materials, collections, and electronic information. All of the librarys electronic resources are accessible 24 hours a day,seven days a week through the librarys home page, www.nu.edu/library. Web-based resources include netLibrary and ebrary (representing more than 64,400 electronic books that can be read online), full text article databases covering all subject areas taught at National University, and general references such as the Gale Virtual Reference Library and the Oxford English Dictionary. The library provides qualified, trained librarians to work with faculty and students one-on-one or in small groups. Librarians are available in person at the Central Library or at one of the regional Library Information Centers. Services include: Reference Support RefDeskAn e-mail reference service supported by 17 central and regional librarians. Consultations Students may schedule time with a librarian to help them with their research needs. Extended hours The library is open 72.5 hours a week. Students have direct access to the Library Help Desk at 1-866-682-2237 x7900. Information Literacy Library Instruction Course-related library instruction that is content-based to help make the instruction relevant to student learning needs. Consultations Students may schedule time with a librarian to help them improve their library research skills.Tutorials Web-based tutorials available to all new online students. Regional and Online Support Library Information Centers (LIC) are housed in each of the regional academic learning centers. The LIC librarians provide skilled, personal service to faculty and students.Online students are supported through the online library course. The course instructor is available to work individually with students or in small chat groups.
